The 18 Plus "Dossers" premier event during the
1990`s was the WASH weekend which takes place each year at Searles Holiday
Centre, Hunstanton in Norfolk..
Each year the "Dossers" held an "election" to
determine who would be their spiritual leader for the year.
In 1996 the "Dossers" held their last get-together
at WASH. |
Here we see the first appearance of the "Bovis Skull"
presented at WASH 1995 by the "Dossers - Anti-Christ" John A Smith.
My association with the Dossers began in 1991 when I went on a
cycling holiday with Rob Wilson, ("Dosser" No 2), our trek included the 18 Plus
TAG weekend, (held at Shepton Mallett in 1991). There was quite a good turn out
of "Dossers".
1991 was the Golden Jubilee of the National Federation of 18 Plus
Groups, and so I tried to attend as many events as possible, including the
annual WASH weekend.
As usual at the WASH weekend there was a good showing of
"Dossers" and when it came to the "Elections" I was persuaded to have a "Rant".
I had no intention of becoming "Number One "Dosser" so I did a
"Rant" insisting that if I was elected then the "Dossers" would have to
"Renounce the Bovis!".
Needless to say the "Dossers" refused to renounce the Bovis and I
was not elected. The "Dossers" called me "Infidel!" This was a knick name that
I quite liked, unfortunately it was changed the following year to
"Anti-Christ!"

Here you can see Jonathan Kirkland "Ranting" at the
"Dossers" elections for "Number One Dosser".
On the right hand side is Tom Rowe, one of the "Dossers" Elite, on
the chair is the "Bovis Skull" donated by Rugby 18 Plus as the original had
gone missing at the Easter Holiday that year, (it was returned at the 1997
Easter Holiday following an article in Plus News).
This was at WASH 1996.
The following is an extract from the WASH 1996 Programme:
"The WASH weekend has become the official date of the annual
"Dossers" elections. The conferences, campaigns, speeches and rantswill all
take place in the Mariners Bar between Bands on Saturday and Sunday nights with
the election of Dosser Number One being announced on Sunday evening. Spare a
few minutes to take a look at this organised lunacy".
