On Friday August 22nd 1997 I cycled to the National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierpoint, Nottingham, a distance of about 80 miles to raise money for the Yorkshire Area 18 Plus Children in Need Appeal. The destination of the sponsored cycle ride was the National 18 Plus "TAG" weekend which took place at the above venue. I departed from Huddersfield Railway station at 9 o clock on Friday morning and cycled to Nottingham. (See the Charity Challenge page for more). See the Stockport 18 Plus at TAG 1997 Page for even more of the TAG 1997 story. |

Extract from the Alyve magazine, July 1997.
The AMMO weekend was held on Mersea Island for the second year, and Yorkshire Area 18 Plus had members from Leeds, Doncaster and Barnsley present. After raining for weeks , the weather picked up and some people even got sun burnt.
A pat on the back to Leeds 18 Plus Group for finishing in their best ever position in the Annual Mad Mini Olympics, 15th out of 29 teams.
The events used things like a bouncy castle, bungie ropes and the unheated swimming pool.
For your information, the games were won by Brentwood 18 Plus Group.
The parties were excellent and included Mick (Leeds 18 Plus) getting his head shaved for the Children in Need Appeal. He also cycled all the way there from Leeds, a distance of 244 miles taking 3 days! Well done Mick!
All in all it was a brilliant weekend, hopefully more Yorkshire teams will enter next time - who knows, one of them might win!!

The 1996 18 Plus Yorkshire Area Picnic took place at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Huddersfield. Members brought their own picnic lunches, and played games, such as the egg & spoon race, and the three legged race. I decided to do a bit of tree climbing, I climbed the tree and could not get down in the way I wanted. Here is a picture of me up the tree! |
