Put Her Down Santa!

SantaSanta The Northern Area Christmas Dance took place on the 19th December at the Great Weston Public House in Marsden on the A62. The pub was in a rural setting with a late bar, which allowed everyone to get quite merry. Initial worries about the attendance were unnecessary as the room filled up and we over-spilled into the bar area.

Santa Claus made a brief appearance and at this point the Romiley girls decided to sit on Santa's knee in a not very good girl fashion. Once the raffle had been drawn Santa left, as he was a bit worried about his reindeer.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and now they can't wait until the Valentine's dance.

"Sandcastles" 1997

On Saturday August 30th 1997 18 Plus members from all over the Yorkshire region, and also from Reading, and Worcester 18 Plus Groups converged on the seaside town of Cleethorpes for the annual Grimsby & Cleethorpes 18 Plus Group "Sandcastles" competition.

I attended the "Sandcastles" competition with Leeds 18 Plus Group.

The event is really a sand "sculpture" competition, and teams had two hours to construct their creations, which included a Stock Car Racing Circuit, a Submarine, one of the Telly Tubbies, Jabba the Hut from Star Wars, and a Lobster.

John A Smith's sand skull I decided to have a go at the competition myself, and so entered on behalf of Huddersfield 18 Plus Group.

Click on the picture to see an enlargement of my effort.

The event was judged by the Mayor, and Mayoress of Cleethorpes and the results were announced at the Winter Gardens where the evening's Disco, which was a re-union Party to celebrate 30 years of Grimsby & Cleethorpes 18 Plus took place. Grimsby & Cleethorpes 18 Plus Group Chairman Ann Davis presented the trophies.

Leeds 18 Plus Slaves Leeds 18 Plus Group held a "Slave Auction" on one of their Club Nights, money raised went to Leeds 18 Plus Group's chosen Charity, and the Yorkshire Area 18 Plus Children in Need Appeal, £23.50 was raised, and £20.00 of this was donated to the Children in Need Appeal.

The "Slavery" took place at the Grimsby & Cleethorpes 18 Plus "Sandcastles" Disco.

Dave Sugden, (Bradford 18 Plus), asked his slave John A Smith, (Huddersfield 18 Plus) to find him a blonde nymphomaniac, after much searching, John found Helen from Grimsby & Cleethorpes 18 Plus who admitted to being a blonde nymphomaniac, and was willing to meet Dave, he got a cuddle, and his photo taken with Helen. Other slaves were sent to the bar for drinks, or sent for a dance.

Here is a picture of Liz, Dave and myself as Slaves.

TAG VENUE

On Friday August 22nd 1997 I cycled to the National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierpoint, Nottingham, a distance of about 80 miles to raise money for the Yorkshire Area 18 Plus Children in Need Appeal.

The destination of the sponsored cycle ride was the National 18 Plus "TAG" weekend which took place at the above venue. I departed from Huddersfield Railway station at 9 o clock on Friday morning and cycled to Nottingham. (See the Charity Challenge page for more).

AMMO weekend 1997

Extract from the Alyve magazine, July 1997.

The AMMO weekend was held on Mersea Island for the second year, and Yorkshire Area 18 Plus had members from Leeds, Doncaster and Barnsley present. After raining for weeks , the weather picked up and some people even got sun burnt.

A pat on the back to Leeds 18 Plus Group for finishing in their best ever position in the Annual Mad Mini Olympics, 15th out of 29 teams.

The events used things like a bouncy castle, bungie ropes and the unheated swimming pool.

For your information, the games were won by Brentwood 18 Plus Group.

The parties were excellent and included Mick (Leeds 18 Plus) getting his head shaved for the Children in Need Appeal. He also cycled all the way there from Leeds, a distance of 244 miles taking 3 days! Well done Mick!

All in all it was a brilliant weekend, hopefully more Yorkshire teams will enter next time - who knows, one of them might win!!

Yorkshire Area Picnic 1996

The 1996 18 Plus Yorkshire Area Picnic took place at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Huddersfield.

Members brought their own picnic lunches, and played games, such as the egg & spoon race, and the three legged race.

I decided to do a bit of tree climbing, I climbed the tree and could not get down in the way I wanted.

Here is a picture of me up the tree!
