David`s Corner - Poem - Poetry List

Faith
(God and Pi)

My friend seems a fool, a good-natured clod,
He blindly believes in this business all about god.

I proved to him, the other day that this religion could not be real,
With a brilliantly applied flourish of logical zeal.

My friend had no choice but to concede,
My growing ego, this did feed.

I cleverly removed all doubt that he was wrong to believe,
Not even for a split second did 1 feel that I should grieve.

Said I, Maths and science are things on which we can rely.
Not mumbojumbo, miracles or voices from on high.

After a short time had passed and I had time to think,
I take some steps back from the brink.

I realise that my views are based on arrogance and self-promotion.
Are they relevant when compared to his devotion?

If I manage to replace his good book,
My friend could become some type of crook.

In discussion with him, I explain as to me it is occurring,
If I cut a Pi in three, I can't eat the slice that is recurring.

Perhaps not quite too late in the day it becomes clear to me,
Wisdom begins with learning that all there is I can not see.

Our friendship is stronger now, which is good news,
We've taken time to respect one another's views.
