David`s Corner - Poem - Poetry List

Life's a lottery

1 buy a ticket for the lottery with hope in my heart,
And think for what exotic trips 1 can depart.

If 1 win it will be a blessing,
What are the numbers, they've got me guessing.

What could 1 do, who could 1 treat,
Winning's a feeling very hard to beat.

Saturday comes a double rollover,
It's my big night I'll soon be in clover.

All of a sudden memories linger,
That put in context that big finger.

Is my life, my situation so terribly bad?
That 1 must dwell on what 1 could have had.

When both health and medication fails,
These things are what life really entails.

Big money cannot begin to compensate,
For the loss, last year, of my best mate.

He would want me to laugh out loud,
Carry on and feel quite proud.

1 can take pleasure in many simple things,
And enjoy my life just like some Kings.

For little cash 1 work and sweat.
But at least 1 owe no one, no debt.

1 can live without a swimming pool,
And designer clothes that look so cool.

I'd still like to win and have a nice big house,
But things aren't too bad, I've no need to grouse.

Maybe tomorrow I'll walk in the countryside.
And take my troubles within my stride.
