(This introduction to Quest and Eighteen Plus is included in the new members pack given to potential new members of Stockport Eighteen Plus Group when they first attend. Apologies, it's a bit wordy, I'll rework it sometime).

Perhaps the best description I've heard of is that Eighteen Plus and Quest is a grown up youth club, or it's like the Young Farmers, but without the wellies. It is sometimes much easier to say what Eighteen Plus is not, it is not a singles club, not 'something to do with club 18-30' and has no political or religious leanings.

If you like outings, sports, competitions, pub crawls, discos, the cinema, meals out and loads of other things, but have friends whose idea of a good time is curled up in front of the News with a cup of cocoa, then Eighteen Plus is the answer!

A Programme of what's happening is put together every two or three months, you are more than welcome to join in and that's definitely the best way of 'sussing' out what Eighteen Plus is all about. The programme is made up of suggestions made by everyone in the group and there is nothing stopping you suggesting / organising something yourself.

Generally most outings start off from The Crown. However when the pub is shut then generally we meet at the drive-in MacDonalds (on the corner of the 'Grand Central' Complex on the A6.) Visits to the cinema, ten pin bowling and quasar generally kick off from the Unity, over the road from the MacDonalds. But the details of when and where everybody is meeting will be given out on the previous Tuesday. If it's something which has to be booked up for and paid in advance a deposit may well be asked for. Again if there are questions ask a Committee member.

Eighteen Plus is organised at both Area and National levels, the Northern Area covers all the groups in Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Yorkshire.

Once you join Stockport Quest you are automatically a member of the National Federation of Eighteen Plus groups which means you can go along to any Quest or Eighteen Plus group meeting anywhere in the Country.

If you've read this far you're probably interested in joining and are wondering how much it costs to become a member of Eighteen Plus. Membership for a year costs a 'mere' twenty pounds. You may join straight away, or after four weeks of attending Eighteen Plus events, this is to give you an idea of what 18 Plus is like before joining.

You may be asked for fifty pence subs each Tuesday that you attend the group night meeting, if you're a new member you won't be charged for the first week.

The aim of 18 Plus and Quest is to provide people between the ages of 18 and 35 and over the age of 36 with fun, enjoyment and personal development through a balance of social, leisue and Charity Fundraising activities run entirely by volunteers and Committees who are elected from the members by the members.
