Northern Area 18 Plus e-chat December 2003

Hello there - how are you doing? It's been a while since an e-chat has been sent out from the Area Chairman, I thought it was a good idea, so decided to resurrect it. Anyone have any comments.

The main aim of e-chat is as a way for me to let you know of Group, Area and National happenings as quickly as possible. It is not a replacement for the Bulk Posting which I intent to resurrect as well.

Hopefully it can work both ways. Please let me know of anything you want to find out or pass on to other Groups.

November Area Conference

Many thanks to those who attended - it was a very worthwhile and positive afternoon, with some very interesting ideas suggested. Please note, at next May's Conference, all Committee positions are up for renewal: if anyone wishes to consider having a go at any of the Area positions, please let me know.

The main thing for me was my election as Area Chairman, thanks to those who voted for me. And thanks to Bradford and Northwich for proposing and seconding me. I'd also like to thank Mark for his work as Area Chairman, and to wish him good luck with the job.

Area scale events

At the Area Conference we put together a programme of events for 2004. Many thanks to Rothwell Group for agreeing to run a disco in October with a Ten Pin Bowling competition in the afternoon (Huddersfield has been suggested as a possible location), and Bradford for volunteering to arrange the St Valentines Disco (February 14th), among others. There's still things to arrange, and spaces should you want to put something on.

Christmas Disco

Hope you're getting your glad rags ready for the Christmas Disco on the 20th - it'll be a a great do! The venue is The Gateway, Parrs Wood near Didsbury, it's a fairly swanky venue and will be decked out in Christmas decorations. The D.J. for the event is Rick Brown. Thanks to Elaine Anderson who's donated some great raffle prizes for the occasion.

The Linda Street Trophy 2003 will be presented at the Christmas Disco.

Northern Night Out 2004 - Leeds

This is something new for Northern Area, it was suggested at the Area Conference in November that we organkse special nights out in Leeds and Manchester, these locations are relatively easy to get to by public transport and are "happening" places entertainment wise. First up is Leeds on January 17th 2004. The meeting place will be Weatherspoons at Leeds railway station at 7:30, then on to Maxi's Express for a Chinese buffet (8:00) after the meal a bit of a pun crawl then off clubbin' at the Bondi Beech.

Northern Area 18 Plus Web Site

With the help of Mark Hewson I've updated the Northern Area 18 Plus part of the National 18 Plus Web Site, have a look when you can and let me know what you think. Is it useful, does it look O.K.? is the information correct?

For those who want to dig deeper you'll see that it includes links to Web pages for each Group, I particularly want to know what you think of these.
